How to Elope in the Seychelles (2026/2027 Guide)

UPDATED FOR 2026-2027

When you want to avoid all of the traditional rituals that accompany a conventional wedding, then your ideal option would be to elope with your partner – just the two of you. Nowadays, elopement does not refer to a scandalous event, but a way to tie the knot in an intimate ambiance you feel comfortable with. That is why a Seychelles elopement sounds like a perfect idea when you want a more secluded celebration in paradise-like surroundings.

This exotic place might have never come to your mind as a site to begin your love story. But if you have the right guide – you can have a magical union that you thought was only possible in your dreams. For this reason, I have provided all the necessary information about this astonishing destination, so that you have everything at hand when considering it as your elopement option.

Let’s dive in…

How to legally elope in Seychelles

While there are no specific requirements for your Seychelles romantic getaway, you must be prepared beforehand. In other words, ensure you have all the necessary documents before leaving for your destination. The following forms and papers will be required from you for civil marriage:
– Valid passport
– Birth certificate
Registration form
– Passport copies of both parties

All the documents you provide for civil marriage need to be authenticated and apostatized. Moreover, it is important to point out if you or your partner are divorced or widowed, in which case proof certificates should be provided.

You must submit your documents eight weeks before you leave for Seychelles. It is easier to prepare the papers beforehand because you will need to make other arrangements for the elopement. Also, couples who intend to elope to this destination must travel with original documents.

A Registrar conducts all ceremonies for civil marriages in accordance with the laws of Seychelles. They are usually held during working days, excluding public holidays. In addition, everyone who intends to get married here must be a hotel resident for at least two days before the ceremony.

Protected Beach Access

For 2026-2027, elopements in the Seychelles are primarily impacted by how beaches are protected and managed. Many of the most iconic granite backed beaches are located within national parks or nature reserves, where access points, visiting hours, and permitted activities are clearly defined. Even quiet, symbolic ceremonies may require prior authorization, and some beaches prohibit organized events altogether.
For couples planning a Seychelles elopement in 2026-2027, choosing beaches with confirmed public access or working with authorized locations is essential. This ensures the experience remains peaceful while respecting one of the most carefully preserved coastal environments in the world.

What to wear for your elopement in Seychelles

What to wear when eloping in Seychelles

The dress

Since the temperatures in Seychelles tend to be warm and dry, I suggest you pick a dress made of lighter materials. Wear something that is not body-hugging and thick. There are light and breezy materials that will give you a pleasant feel while also allowing you to look classy and fabulous.

The shoes

Eloping in Seychelles usually means tying the knot on one of the island’s magnificent beaches. Therefore, consider wearing sandals rather than high heels in order to feel more comfortable. I suggest going barefoot if you want to match the beachy surroundings of your elopement.

The suit

Getting married in Seychelles means wearing a more casual outfit. Therefore, a suit is not mandatory, but if you want a classy vibe, pick a lighter suit and avoid layers. On the other hand, you can also opt for pants and a lighter button-up shirt.
