First, let’s be sure we’re talking about the same thing:

What is an elopement?

Let’s get on the same page before we talk about how to plan your Arkansas elopement! Eloping has transformed significantly in recent years, and it’s no longer about hurried ceremonies, secret marriages, or hastily-planned weddings. Nowadays, eloping is all about creating a wedding day that’s entirely unique to you! Your special day should be a reflection of your personalities, and eschewing the traditional wedding script and eloping instead allows you to concentrate on what’s essential to the two of you and to celebrate your marriage exactly as you envision it.

How to legally elope in Arkansas

How to Legally Elope in Arkansas

Before you set foot to arrange your dreamy Arkansas affair, you need to be well-informed about the marriage legalities in the country. This is a necessary step that will ensure your union is legal before the law. Luckily, the process is rather easy, and all you need to do is make sure you‘ve gathered all the required paperwork prior to setting foot on this amazing adventure. In addition, you and your partner must fulfill the following prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a valid, government-issued ID

In terms of documentation, which need to be submitted to the County Clerk’s Office, you will need to obtain the following:

  • Valid passport
  • State-certified copy of your birth certificate,

The cost of the marriage license is $60, which needs to be paid for in cash since the state doesn’t allow this type of certificate to be paid in cash. Unfortunately, Arkansas doesn’t allow for online marriage license applications. Still, there are around 75 County Clerk’s Offices throughout the state, so finding the most convenient for you shouldn’t be super hard.

The good news is that there’s no waiting period, meaning that you’ll be able to get your license the same day you apply for it. After obtaining it, you and your partner will be required to get married within 60 days, after which the license will expire.

Overall, the legal requirements to elope in Arkansas are rather lenient, which is one of the many reasons why this location would make the ideal choice for having a hassle-free experience.

Why elope in Arkansas?

Stunning nature

People frequently refer to Arkansas as “The Natural Site,” and there are plenty of reasons that justify its title. The land is full of natural treasures- some of which are publicly known, while others are well hidden, but all of which enchant visitors with their stunning appearance. The area offers numerous surprises to satisfy your adventurous soul and make your elopement truly unforgettable.

Low cost

Another reason why you should consider Arkansas as your ideal destination is the reasonable price. Namely, paying for your marriage license is rather cheap, and the only costs you’ll have to face are your transportation, attire, officiant, and the Arkansas elopement photographer you’ll hire.

A stress-free experience

From the convenience of getting your marriage certificate to finding a location that will align with your vision, to elope in Arkansas means that you’ll be entitled to receive a completely stress-free experience. After all, elopements are meant to bring maximum enjoyment to the couple, and Arkansas is the perfect place to get the full experience.

When to elope in Arkansas

When to Elope in Arkansas

Although Arkansas is beautiful throughout the whole year, the ultimate decision of when you should plan your elopement here would depend on your weather and scenery preferences. Overall, the best seasons to tie the knot here are:

Spring and Summer in Arkansas

The mild and warm climate that characterizes Arkansas’ spring and summer make this period ideal for planning your marriage ceremony there. The pleasant weather conditions will allow you to get to your dream spots without any hassle, meaning that you’ll be able to execute your vision perfectly.

However, note that there’s a likelihood that you’ll experience a little rain during the early spring months so make sure that you’re well-prepared for this occurrence, especially if you’re planning an outdoor event (which I’m sure you are).

Fall in Arkansas

If you prefer a milder climate and gold-decorated scenery, then it would be best to plan your elopement in the fall months. During this period, the temperatures range between 60 and 80 degrees, which contributes to creating the perfect atmosphere. In addition, the fall foliage and brownish-yellow painted surroundings design the ultimate backdrop for some stunning magical photos.

What to wear to elope in Arkansas

What to Wear to Elope in Arkansas

When picking your elopement attire, be guided by the goal of feeling comfortable. Since you’re probably choosing this destination for its stunning natural spots (most of which require walking or hiking), I advise that you pick your outfit accordingly.

The Dress

Since you’ll probably need to walk in order to reach your elopement location, make sure that you choose a dress that will allow you to move freely. This also means it will be better if you stay away from overly long gowns. This isn’t related only to the fact that they’ll restrict your movement but also to the enhanced chances that they’ll get dirty and possibly ruin your dreamy photos – unless you want to get your dress dirty, of course!

The Shoes

When it comes to choosing your shoes, the same advice applies- the comfier, the better! Use your logic and choose your footwear according to the location. If it requires walking long distances, it’s best to wear hiking boots. This also applies if the weather is wet.

The Suit

When choosing your groom’s suit, I’d recommend staying away from overly bright colors, such as white or beige. Regardless of the season, most Arkansas locations are rocky or sandy, which increases the odds of your suit getting stained. Opting for darker hues will ultimately prove to be the best decision – attire-wise!

Elope in Arkansas – Your Checklist

Choose a Location

Before making all the elopement-related arrangements, be sure to reach a mutual decision about where you’ll say your long-awaited “I do’s”!

Pick a date

Book your Arkansas elopement during late spring, summer, or fall months to have the most magical nature experience. Try to skip the early spring dates to avoid possible rain.

Depending on where you live, choose your transportation means accordingly. It is also advisable that you book your accommodation in advance in order to avoid any inconvenience.

Book your vendors

It is very important to choose your vendors wisely, as these people will make all the difference on your special day. Once you decide on the date and location, contact them immediately to secure their services!

Once you review this checklist and confirm that you’ve completed every step, you’re ready to elope in Arkansas and enjoy the most magical event in your life. After all, this is the moment you’ve long been waiting for, so mark the beginning of your union by including in the adventure you’ll remember forever!
