Thailand is a magical country – turquoise blue water, jungle-covered islands, amazing food, and endless adventures await! For any adventurous couple who wants their wedding day to be one that actually reflects them, eloping in Thailand is the perfect way to tie the knot.

This guide will tell you how to elope in Thailand, with everything you need to know to plan your one of a kind adventure!

Let’s dive in…

Pssst…You don’t have to carry this.

Eloping abroad can quickly turn into spreadsheets, permits, weather questions and second-guessing.
Instead, imagine every location vetted, every timeline built around real light and travel flow, and the entire experience both designed and photographed at an award-winning level.
You bring your story. The planning and the artistry are already handled.

How to legally elope in THailand

It can sometimes be tricky to get legally married abroad, so some couples decide to do the paperwork at home. But, if you want to get legally married when you elope in Thailand, here’s what you’ll need to do!

It takes at least two days to complete the paperwork, so be sure to arrive in Thailand a little early to do this. You’ll need your passports, and an Affidavit of Freedom to Marry, which can be obtained at your embassy in Thailand.

A ceremony actually isn’t required to get legally married in Thailand – you just have to legally register your marriage at the local registration office. You’ll need to have a translator if you don’t speak Thais, and the office can provide witnesses. Afterwards, you’ll get your wedding certificate (in Thai, so it may need to be translated), and you’ll be officially married!

Can foreigners elope in Thailand?

Yes! Wherever you come from, and whatever your gender, religion or sexual orientation is, you can get legally married in Thailand!

Evolving Entry Rules and Stricter Use of Natural Sites

For 2026-2027, elopements in Thailand are increasingly influenced by evolving immigration rules and stronger protection of natural and cultural sites. While Thailand remains accessible for many nationalities, entry requirements are applied more consistently, including proof of onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient length of stay. Short, tightly scheduled elopements have become more exposed to delays or complications at arrival.
At the same time, national parks, beaches, islands, and waterfalls are under stricter environmental management. Ceremonies and professional photography in protected areas now more often require specific permits, and some locations enforce seasonal closures to allow ecological recovery. Unauthorized ceremonies may be interrupted, particularly in marine parks and high profile tourist areas.
For couples planning a Thailand elopement in 2026-2027, advance preparation is key. Clean entry documentation, careful location selection, and proper permits ensure a smooth experience while respecting the country’s landscapes and cultural framework.

What to wear to elope in Thailand

What to wear when eloping in Thailand

The dress

Thailand’s climate is typically hot and humid, so opt for lightweight fabrics and an elopement dress that will keep you cool. Along with weather, think about what you’ll be doing on your elopement day – and make sure your dress is comfortable and allows you to move freely!

The shoes

Shoes are just as important when it comes to your elopement attire! Hiking shoes are best for hikes, but for a beach elopement, going barefoot can be an option – choose shoes that are comfortable and make sense for your adventure, and be sure to break them in if you get a new pair!

The suit

Since Thailand is warm, you may want to opt for dress pants and a nice shirt instead of a three piece suit. Think about comfort, and make sure that your suit fits well and feels good, allowing you to adventure and explore on your elopement day!
