How to Elope in the Philippines 2026/27 – Complete Guide

UPDATED FOR 2026-2027

The Philippines is an archipelago that lies off the coast of Southeast Asia. This country is an absolutely incredible tropical destination, with some of the most stunning beaches, dense jungles and forests, breathtaking waterfalls, and more.

A lot of the country is off the beaten path and remote, which is a huge part of what makes it so beautiful, and what makes eloping in the Philippines the perfect choice for adventurous couples who want to get married in their own unique way!

Let’s dive in…

How to legally elope in Philippines

The process of getting legally married in the Philippines is pretty difficult – there are some unique requirements, and while you can get legally married abroad, some couples decide to complete their paperwork at home to allow them to focus on the fun stuff on their elopement today instead of worrying about legalities! If you do decide to get legally married when eloping in the Philippines, here’s what you need to know.

A unique thing about getting married in the Philippines is that if you are between the ages of 18 and 21, you need written parental consent to get legally married. And if you are between the ages of 21 and 25, you need a sworn statement signed by your parents that states that you’ve gotten their advice and blessing to get married. If your parents aren’t attending your elopement ceremony, you can get a legal affidavit with their signatures and the signatures of two witnesses.

To get the marriage license, you’ll need to show your original birth certificates, a passport, and a certificate that states you are legally able to get married. You’ll notify the civil registrar that you plan to get married, and then there’s a waiting period of 10 days before you can get the marriage license. Once you get the marriage license, an officiant and two witnesses are required to sign it!

Can foreigners elope in Philippines?

Yes! Wherever you come from, and whatever your gender, religion or sexual orientation is, you can get legally married in Philippines!

More Stringent Entry Formalities and Regional Permit Enforcement

For 2026-2027, elopements in the Philippines are increasingly influenced by tighter entry formalities and stronger local governance at the regional level. While many nationalities can still enter visa free for tourism, immigration officers are applying arrival rules more strictly, including proof of onward travel, confirmed accommodation, and sufficient length of stay. Couples planning short, tightly timed elopements are more exposed to delays or questioning upon arrival.
At the same time, local governments and environmental authorities have reinforced permit requirements for ceremonies and professional photography, particularly on islands, beaches, waterfalls, and marine protected areas. Some destinations now require coordination with both municipal offices and environmental agencies, and unauthorized ceremonies may be stopped on site.
For couples planning a Philippines elopement in 2026-2027, advance preparation is essential. Entry documentation must be clean and complete, and location permissions should be handled ahead of time to avoid disruptions in a country where natural beauty is increasingly protected and locally regulated.

What to wear for an elopement in the Philippines

What to wear when eloping in Philippines

The dress

Weather in the Philippines is pretty warm year-round, so it’s best to choose lightweight dresses that will help you stay cool. For any elopement, remember that you’ll be moving around a lot – so opt for loose, flowy skirts that allow you to walk easily and be comfortable!

The shoes

Shoes are a really important part of your elopement attire, and when eloping in the Philippines, waterproof shoes are a must! If you’re hiking, the trails are often muddy (especially right after the summer rainy season), so you’ll want shoes with good traction. If you don’t plan to hike, it’s still important to find comfortable shoes, and if you get new ones, break them in before the big day!

The suit

When eloping in the Philippines, you may want to opt for something more casual than a three-piece suit – dress pants and a button up shirt will look nice, without being too warm. Make sure everything fits well and that you can move freely, and choose lightweight fabrics that will keep you cool in the hot weather!

Typical food and dishes from Philippines

A Savory Staple

Adobo

Adobo is often considered the unofficial national dish of the Philippines. This beloved dish is made by marinating meat, typically chicken or pork, in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and black peppercorns, then simmering it until tender. The result is a flavorful, tangy, and slightly salty dish that exemplifies the simplicity and robust flavors of Filipino cuisine.

A Festive Delight

Lechon

Lechon refers to a whole roasted pig, and it is a centerpiece at many Filipino celebrations. Cooked over charcoal, the pig is seasoned with spices like salt, pepper, and lemongrass, resulting in crispy skin and succulent meat. Often served with a liver-based sauce, lechon is a testament to the Filipinos’ love for communal and festive dining.

Halo-Halo, which translates to “mix-mix,” is a popular Filipino dessert that is as colorful as it is delicious. It consists of crushed ice mixed with various ingredients such as sweetened beans, coconut strips, sago pearls, and fruits, topped with a scoop of ice cream or leche flan. This dessert is not only a refreshing treat to beat the tropical heat but also a fun way to enjoy a variety of sweet flavors and textures in one bowl.
