The 10 best Isle of Skye elopement locations

The Isle of Skye, with its towering cliffs, rocky slopes, lush greenery, ancient castles, and absolutely unforgettable scenery, is on just about everyone’s bucket list! And for adventurous couples, an Isle of Skye elopement, amongst the vast landscapes and jaw dropping views, might be the perfect way to celebrate beginning the rest of your lives together.

But, the island is full of stunning views – so how do you decide where to tie the knot? This guide will tell you the best places to elope on the Isle of Skye, along with some more info that will come in handy when you’re planning your one of a kind ceremony!

The Best Time to Elope on the Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is located in Scotland, and it’s famous for rain and moody weather! It’s also a popular destination for travelers, so before you set an elopement date, here’s what you need to know.

Winter on the Isle of Skye

The truth is that it rains often on the Isle of Skye – throughout the year, you’ll need to be prepared for a drizzle! Winter is the rainiest season, averaging about 20 days of rain (while summer averages 15) each month. Winters don’t get too cold – it rarely falls below freezing, though you’ll definitely need jackets and warm layers. The days are also shorter, which means less time to hike and explore. But, this time of year, there are very few people around!

Spring on the Isle of Skye

Spring brings warmer temperatures, less rain, and longer days – this can be an amazing time for an Isle of Skye elopement, because it’s more mild than winter, but less tourist-y than summer! May and June are the least rainy, and these are the best months to elope. You’ll still need to be prepared for chilly weather, especially by the ocean, but it’s an amazing time for outdoor adventures!

Summer on the Isle of Skye

Summer is definitely the most popular time to visit the Isle of Skye, which means it’ll be harder to find a private place to exchange vows. But, this is when the weather is best, with warmer temperatures and less rain!

Fall on the Isle of Skye

Fall is another amazing time to elope on the Isle of Skye. After the summer crowds have left, but it’s still warm, you’ll have much more privacy. But, it gets really rainy starting in September – so bring some rain gear!

The 10 Best Isle of Skye Elopement Locations

This is the most exciting thing about eloping on the Isle of Skye – finding that place that you’ll always treasure as the spot where you exchanged vows, promised to marry your best friend, and began the rest of your lives together. There are countless places to choose from, but here are 10 of the best Isle of Skye elopement locations, and the best places to tie the knot (in no particular order)!

1) Old Man of Storr

This spot is one of the absolute best places to elope on the Isle of Skye – it’s one of the most photographed locations for a reason! You have a few spots to choose from, some easily accessible and others requiring a hike. But the rocky pinnacles line the windy paths, making for an epic backdrop.

2) Sgurr Alisdair

This is the highest peak on the Isle of Skye, so getting here is definitely a challenge! But if you’re up for a hike, and you want to experience the incredible rocky cliffs, alpine lakes, and sweeping views, eloping on this mountain is an adventure you’ll remember forever.

3) Brother’s Point

For incredible views of the ocean, this is one of the best Isle of Skye elopement locations! A rugged outcropping towers over the sea, and the rocky cliffs are absolutely breathtaking.

4) Fairy Glen

With a name like Fairy Glen, it’s guaranteed to be magical! This spot is often overlooked, but it’s an incredible place to visit on the Isle of Skye. A short hike takes you to sweeping views of the lush valley, with rocky formations along the way.

5) Fairy Pools

This is a popular destination, but one of the best Isle of Skye elopement locations for couples who want something easily accessible! The walk will take you along small waterfalls and pools of water, surrounded by the beautiful greenery that the island is known for.

6) Bla Bheinn

Bla Bheinn is an incredible mountain on the Isle of Skye, and a great elopement location if you don’t mind hiking! A steep trail will take you up the mountain to sweeping views of the valley below you, and due to the trail’s rocky ascent, you’re more likely to have this spot to yourself.

7) Dunscaith Castle

All that’s left of this castle is the ruins (if you want to explore one that’s still standing, check out Dunvegan Castle), but this makes for a really unique Isle of Skye elopement location! The ruins sit on a cliff overlooking the ocean, making for an amazing backdrop for your ceremony.

8) Neist Point

This is a really popular spot, so it’s best to plan your ceremony for sunrise if you want to elope here! But, it’s incredibly beautiful, with a cliff that extends into the ocean and a path that you can walk for some unforgettable views.

9) Loch Coruisk

This lake is only accessible by boat – which means it’s a more private Isle of Skye elopement location! It lies at the foot of the mountain range, and offers absolutely incredible views of the water surrounded by peaks.

10) The Quiraing

An ancient landslide formed a landscape of valleys, gorges, and peaks – creating the Quiraing! This is one of the best Isle of Skye elopement locations for dramatic views, and you can find everything from easily accessible locations to adventurous hikes.
