Elope in Fiji with an award-winning photographer and elopement planner

Planning an elopement in Fiji surrounded by turquoise lagoons, white sand beaches, and lush tropical islands? I help couples design unforgettable Fiji elopements while documenting every moment as their photographer.

Pssst…You don’t have to carry this.

Eloping abroad can quickly turn into spreadsheets, permits, weather questions and second-guessing.
Instead, imagine every location vetted, every timeline built around real light and travel flow, and the entire experience both designed and photographed at an award-winning level.
You bring your story. The planning and the artistry are already handled.

An elopement in Fiji offers the kind of tropical paradise many couples dream about when imagining an intimate destination wedding. Scattered across the South Pacific, Fiji’s islands are known for their crystal-clear waters, soft white beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. The atmosphere is peaceful, warm, and wonderfully relaxed, making it easy to focus entirely on the experience you’re sharing together.

Whether you exchange vows on a secluded beach, explore lush jungle trails, or celebrate your wedding day with the ocean stretching endlessly around you, eloping in Fiji creates a truly unforgettable island escape.

Let’s dive in…

How to legally elope in Fiji

You don’t have to live in Fiji to get married here! If you’re traveling for your elopement, you’ll need to send copies of these documents to the Registry office at least two weeks before your ceremony:

  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Certificate of No Impediment – but you don’t need this if you’re from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, and any European countries
  • Divorce or death certificate if either of you were previously married

Once you arrive in Fiji, you’ll also need to show the original copies of all of these documents! There are some more requirements that can depend on which country you’re coming from, so be sure to read about it on the Embassy website.

When you get your marriage license, you’ll need a celebrant and at least two witnesses who are 21 or older. A celebrant can be someone who works in the Marriage Registry and is an official civil marriage celebrant, or, if you’re having a religious ceremony, you can have a religious official, like a minister, perform the ceremony. The celebrant and your two witnesses will sign the marriage certificate, and then it will be filed at the Registrars office!

Many couples who elope abroad decide to do the paperwork at home – this is often easier than navigating international marriage laws, and can allow you to focus on the fun part on the actual elopement day!

Can foreigners elope in Fiji?

Yes! Wherever you come from, and whatever your gender, religion or sexual orientation is, you can get legally married in Fiji!

Customary Land Ownership and Village Approval

For 2026-2027, elopements in Fiji are primarily influenced by customary land ownership. Many beaches, islands, and inland landscapes are not privately owned in the Western sense but belong to local villages under traditional stewardship. Even when a location looks public, explicit village or landowner permission may be required for ceremonies and professional photography.
For couples planning a Fiji elopement in 2026-2027, working with locations that have clear agreements in place or obtaining proper local approval is essential. Respecting customary protocols ensures a smooth experience and honors the communities that care for the land.

What to wear to elope in Fiji

What to wear when eloping in Fiji

The dress

Comfort is so important, so when you decide on a dress, opt for styles that have looser skirts – these are much easier to walk in, and will be more comfortable for any adventure. Make sure you can sit, hike, and move around easily!

The shoes

Especially in the rainy season, waterproof shoes are so important. Hiking boots are the best option if you plan to hit the trails, but make sure to break them in if you get new ones for the big day!

The suit

Suits make layering easy, and since Fiji is warm year round you might opt for nice pants and a button up. Make sure your suit is comfortable and fits you well, and that you can adventure without worrying about it!

Typical food and dishes from Fiji

You might want to integrate into your elopement day

What to eat during your Fiji elopement - Kokoda
A Tropical Treat

Kokoda

Kokoda is Fiji’s version of ceviche, made from fresh fish marinated in lemon or lime juice and mixed with coconut milk, onions, tomatoes, and sometimes chillies. This refreshing dish embodies the flavors of the Pacific, offering a cool, creamy texture with just the right amount of tang and spice, perfect for enjoying on a warm Fijian day.

A Hearty Comfort

Lovo

Lovo refers to a traditional Fijian method of cooking, similar to an underground oven, where meat, fish, and vegetables are wrapped in banana leaves and slow-cooked over hot stones. This cooking process imparts a unique smoky flavor and results in incredibly tender food. Lovo is often prepared for special occasions and gatherings, making it a festive and communal dining experience

The Cassava Cake is a popular Fijian dessert made from grated cassava (a root vegetable), coconut milk, and sugar, sometimes enhanced with a hint of vanilla or coconut caramel. Baked until golden brown, this cake offers a dense, slightly chewy texture and a rich, sweet flavor that makes it a beloved treat in Fijian households and a must-try for visitors.

A small conclusion: Why elope in Fiji?

Undeveloped Beauty

The landscapes and scenery are one of the best reasons to tie the knot in Fiji, but the best part is that Fiji isn’t overly developed! You can find lots of getaways and adventures right in nature – away from the hustle and bustle. A Fiji wedding is perfect for couples who love the outdoors!

The Culture

The locals of Fiji have a rich culture and history, and one of the best things about eloping in Fiji is getting to experience the authentic island life. There are lots of excursions you can take, or just explore the local towns and villages! Fiji is famous for “Bula” – the genuine, authentic kindness and joyful spirit that’s a huge part of life for the folks that live here. You’ll feel at home everywhere you go!

Combine Adventures and Relaxation

Fiji has tons of adventurous things to do – like hiking, white water rafting, snorkeling, and more. But there are also plenty of waterfront resorts and sunny beaches, so that you can kick back and spend some time just relaxing in paradise!
