Divya and Luke wanted a proper adventure. Not a one-location shoot, not a single afternoon. They wanted three days of Portugal, woven together with intention: a ceremony in a historic town, coastal light at the edge of a cliff, schist villages in the hills, and finally Porto at sunset before they flew home as newlyweds. That is exactly what we built.

How the 3 Days Unfolded
The Lisbon Elopement Itinerary
A Lisbon elopement works best as a journey rather than a single point on a map. This is how Divya and Luke moved through Portugal over 72 hours, with photography and logistical support at every stage.
Location names are kept general in line with our Leave No Trace policy. Specific venues and suppliers are shared with booked clients.
Day 1
Getting Ready, Palace Gardens, Ceremony, and a Hot Tub Under the Stars
Morning started with a relaxed getting-ready session in the hotel room, followed by a first look before we drove to a national park. A tuk tuk carried us to a palace, where the couple picnicked in the gardens before we moved on to a traditional hilltop town. The ceremony took place beside a medieval castle at 4:30 PM. After descending back to the car, we checked into a boutique hotel with a private terrace hot tub looking out over countryside and forest. Dinner at a local restaurant, and stars over the terrace to close the night.
Day 2
Schist Village, Coastal Sunset, and Cocktails by the Sea
A morning drive to a schist village in the hills gave us slow, wandering streets and some of the most characterful portraits of the whole trip. After lunch, we reached the coast in time for golden hour. The sunset shoot on the cliff edge was followed by cocktails at a spot overlooking the Atlantic. The couple stayed at a hotel with a restaurant for dinner, winding down after a full and beautiful day.
Day 3
Vineyard Tour, Wine Tasting, and a Sunset Farewell in Porto
The final morning was all about flavor: a semi-private guided tour through a working vineyard, followed by a tapas and port wine tasting session. Then it was on to Porto for the closing chapter of the trip. The last two hours of photography happened in the city’s tiled streets and along the river at sunset, ending at the couple’s hotel as the light dropped below the rooftops.

Extending the Trip Beyond Lisbon
Divya and Luke’s itinerary ending in Porto is a format I recommend often: start near Lisbon, move through central Portugal, and close in Porto. The drive between the two cities is full of photographic stops, and ending at Porto gives a natural sense of arrival and conclusion that a single-city trip sometimes lacks. It also means the couple comes away with a full portrait of Portugal rather than just one region of it.

Is a Lisbon elopement legal for non-Portuguese couples?
Yes. Portugal allows international couples to hold a legal civil ceremony with the right paperwork in place. The documentation requirements depend on your nationalities and how much lead time you have. What is the best time of year for a Lisbon elopement?
April to June and September to October are the sweet spots: warm and dry, with fewer crowds than July and August. Summer is hot and peak-season busy, which works if you are sticking to remote spots, but can be challenging in urban areas. Winter is mild by European standards and often dramatically beautiful along the coast, with moodier light and very little competition for locations.
How far in advance should I book a Lisbon elopement photographer and planner?
For a multi-day package like Divya and Luke’s, booking 6 to 12 months out is ideal. It gives enough runway to sort permits if needed, coordinate accommodation and dining, and build the itinerary properly. High season dates in September and October book fastest. That said, I do take last-minute bookings when the calendar allows, so it is always worth reaching out even if your date is closer.

Yes, and I actively recommend it for multi-day packages. The drive from Lisbon to Porto is full of photogenic stops and gives the trip a real sense of journey. Porto’s riverside district at golden hour is one of the best elopement photography locations in Portugal. Divya and Luke’s third day is a good example of how naturally it fits into a longer trip.
